 Organization Experiences

The Environment Protection and Scientific Exploration Organization (EPSEO) is a National Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered under the NGO Secretariat within the Ministry of Public security and parliament affairs. It is headquartered in Nawalapitiya, Kandy, and has been actively working for over 26 years to support and empower the Malayaga Tamil Community (MTC) in Sri Lanka. EPSEO's mission focuses on promoting and improving various aspects of the community's well-being and rights. EPSEO has been successfully completed below projects and programs during the period of 2000 – 2024.

EPSEO emphasizes strengthening governance structures within the community to ensure better participation in democratic processes and to win their fundamental rights.

Particularly this organization works to raise awareness and secure the democratic and civic rights of the Malayaga Tamil community, ensuring that individuals have access to justice, fair representation, and equal treatment under the law.

EPSEO is dedicated to promoting gender equality and addressing issues related to women’s rights and empowerment in the community.

EPSEO advocates for the improvement of decent working conditions and safety standards for workers, particularly in industries where the Malayaga Tamils are mostly employed.

The organization focuses on improving relationships between workers and employers, ensuring fair labor practices, dispute resolution, and better working conditions in industrial sectors.

EPSEO encourages MTC for vocational training programs to empower individuals with skills that will enhance their employment opportunities and improve livelihoods.

EPSEO plays an important role in addressing health issues, especially malnutrition, and works to improve healthcare accessibility and awareness within the community.

The organization works to raise awareness and combat human trafficking and smuggling, advocating for the protection of individuals from exploitation.

EPSEO’s work has been supported by several international organizations, such as World University Service of Canada (WUSC), World Vision, Helvetas, Asian Foundation, Search for common ground and USAID, Safe Foundation. Additionally, the organization collaborates closely with the Government and Regional Plantations Companies (RPC) to further its mission and provide sustainable support to the Malayaga Thamilar community. Through these partnerships, EPSEO has been able to achieve significant progress in addressing these pressing issues and supporting the community's development.
